The National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur, India, has commenced a week-long training program for tax officials from BRICS countries, including Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, the UAE, and Ethiopia. This initiative, part of India's BRICS chairmanship for 2026, focuses on Base Erosion and Profit Sharing (BEPS), a strategy used by multinational companies to minimize tax liabilities by shifting profits to low-tax jurisdictions. The training also emphasizes the importance of international collaboration in addressing tax challenges, as highlighted by Prasenjit Singh, a member of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Participants will engage in discussions to draft working papers on various international taxation issues, covering OECD and UN model conventions, as well as global tax reforms such as Pillar One and Pillar Two. The program aims to foster cooperation among nations and enhance technical development in tax practices.
