Abhishek Bachchan, co-founder of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), expressed his enthusiasm for having Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, participate in the league. Bachchan stated, "Do you need a reason why you want to see Mahendra Singh Dhoni in cricket?" Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020, is currently part of the Chennai Super Kings but is sidelined this season due to a calf injury. The ETPL is set to run from August 26 to September 20 and aims to broaden cricket's reach in Europe. Bachchan acknowledged the absence of current Indian players due to BCCI regulations but remains confident that the league will attract fans with its quality. He emphasized the importance of including local European talent alongside established international players, stating that each franchise must feature local players. Bachchan also addressed concerns about the proliferation of T20 leagues, asserting that the quality of the product is key to sustaining fan interest. He believes the T20 format aligns well with modern audience preferences, allowing for exciting and engaging cricket without the lengthy time commitment of Test matches.
