The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strategically formed its first Cabinet in West Bengal, emphasizing regional and caste diversity among its ministers. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, a Brahmin, was sworn in alongside five other MLAs: Dilip Ghosh from the OBC community, Agnimitra Paul, a Kayastha and the only woman minister, Ashok Kirtania, a prominent Matua leader, Kshudiram Tudu, representing the tribal community, and Nisith Pramanik, a Rajbanshi leader from North Bengal. This Cabinet aims to reflect the social and geographic diversity of the state, particularly focusing on South Bengal. The BJP's victory, winning 207 out of 294 seats, ended the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress, which now holds only 80 seats. Article 164(1A) of the Indian Constitution allows for a maximum of 44 ministers in the Cabinet, indicating potential for future expansion as the party considers additional appointments following the swearing-in of newly elected MLAs.
