This initiative was prompted by recent reports of a family of four dying from suspected food poisoning in Mumbai, where food samples, including watermelon, were sent for chemical analysis. During the drive, officials conducted on-the-spot testing and dispatched samples to NABL-accredited laboratories for further examination. The department urged the public to refrain from purchasing cut or peeled fruits from roadside stalls and vendors, as these may be exposed to contamination. Citizens were advised to avoid overripe or damaged fruits and to wash all produce thoroughly before consumption. The department also emphasized the importance of consuming cut fruits immediately and reporting any unhygienic practices observed in food handling.
