The Maharashtra government has launched the 'Chief Minister Students’ Science Tour' initiative aimed at promoting experiential learning among students. Under this program, students excelling in science exhibitions will have the opportunity to visit renowned institutions such as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States. According to the government resolution issued on May 6, the initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes innovation and scientific inquiry. A total of 2,148 students, along with 20 science teachers and supervisors, will participate in these educational tours. Each taluka-level science exhibition will select six students for visits to nearby science centers, with the government approving an expenditure of up to ₹20,000 (roughly $240 USD) per participant. Additionally, 180 outstanding students from primary and secondary categories will be chosen for an educational visit to ISRO, with a budget of ₹35,000 (approximately $420 USD) per participant. The government has allocated ₹3.30 crore (around $400,000 USD) for the NASA tour, with a maximum expenditure of ₹6 lakh (about $7,200 USD) per participant. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in Pune and the State Science Education Institute in Nagpur will coordinate the program's implementation.
