In a dramatic turn of events in Nawabganj, Uttar Pradesh, Soni Tripathi allegedly used a fake Instagram profile to lure her estranged husband, Prabhudutt Tripathi, into a meeting that led to his arrest. For four years, Soni had been living with her parents in Jagpura village after reportedly being driven out by Prabhudutt. She created the fake profile and engaged him in conversation, during which he agreed to meet her, unaware of her true identity. On May 2, 2026, Prabhudutt arrived at Nagvasuki temple with a friend, where Soni was waiting disguised with a scarf. When she revealed herself, Prabhudutt allegedly assaulted her and threatened to kill her before attempting to escape. Soni's family intervened, leading to his arrest after they contacted the police. The Daraganj police have charged him under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
