Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), the largest car manufacturer in India, has announced a significant investment of ₹1,372 crore to develop dedicated green logistics infrastructure. This initiative aims to boost the company's rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35% by the fiscal year 2030-31. Currently, rail logistics contribute 26.5% of the total vehicle dispatches, a substantial increase from previous years. Since 2014, the volume of rail-based dispatches has surged ninefold, with the company achieving 3 million cumulative dispatches in just 21 months, marking a record pace for its operations. MSIL's Managing Director & CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, highlighted that this investment will include the development of in-plant railway sidings at the Hansalpur and Manesar facilities, as well as the establishment of rail yards at key logistics hubs. This strategic move is expected to reduce carbon emissions, lower fuel consumption, and alleviate road congestion.
