Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the largest car manufacturer in India, has announced a significant investment of ₹1,372 crore (approximately $165 million USD) towards enhancing its green logistics infrastructure. This initiative aims to increase the share of rail-based vehicle dispatches from the current 26.5% to 35% by the fiscal year 2030-31. The company has recently surpassed 30 lakh cumulative vehicle dispatches via rail, reflecting a substantial growth in its logistics operations. Since 2014, the volume of rail-based dispatches has increased ninefold, demonstrating the company's commitment to sustainable practices. Maruti Suzuki plans to develop in-plant railway sidings at its Hansalpur and Manesar manufacturing facilities, as well as establish a new siding at its Kharkhoda facility. This strategic move is expected to lower carbon emissions, reduce fuel consumption, and alleviate road congestion.
