The construction of a foot overbridge on Shaheed Path in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, is finally progressing after nearly a year of delays. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has issued a work order to a private agency, which will execute the project aimed at improving pedestrian safety in a busy area that currently lacks designated crossing facilities. Pedestrians have faced significant challenges crossing this high-speed corridor, often risking accidents due to the absence of a zebra crossing or foot overbridge. LDA chief engineer Manvendra Kumar Singh noted that initial delays were caused by difficulties in attracting bidders and disagreements over the proposed site of the bridge. The project will now be carried out under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, allowing the selected agency to generate revenue through advertisements and commercial spaces associated with the bridge. Construction is anticipated to begin in the coming months, with most procedural hurdles now resolved. This new foot overbridge is expected to significantly enhance safety for pedestrians navigating the busy Shaheed Path stretch.
