In a shocking case from Deulgaon Raje village in Daund taluka, Maharashtra, a father named Shantaram Chavan, aged 33, allegedly murdered his nine-year-old daughter using a chainsaw after discovering she had altered her school marksheet to change her ranking. The incident unfolded on Sunday evening when the girl, feeling humiliated by her elder brother's teasing about their exam results, modified her marksheet to elevate herself to first place in Class III, pushing her brother to second in Class IV. Upon learning of the alteration, Chavan reacted violently, slitting his daughter's throat and attempting to dispose of her body by wrapping it in a sari and setting their house on fire. Initially, Chavan claimed the fire was accidental and that his daughter had been trapped inside, but police investigations revealed inconsistencies in his story. Following a tip-off, authorities arrested Chavan and a woman who allegedly assisted him in concealing the crime. The girl's partially burnt body was recovered and sent to Sassoon General Hospital in Pune for DNA testing to confirm her identity.
