The Union Education Ministry has cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination, which was originally conducted on May 3, due to serious allegations of paper leaks and examination irregularities. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan declined to address media inquiries regarding the cancellation. In response, Congress leader Sachin Pilot has called for Pradhan's resignation, emphasizing the need for accountability in light of repeated lapses in national-level examinations. Pilot criticized the government's decision to initiate a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, suggesting it is merely a tactic to delay accountability. He accused the National Testing Agency (NTA) of failing to ensure a secure examination process, alleging the existence of a syndicate involved in the irregularities. The NTA confirmed that the examination would be re-conducted, with existing registration data remaining valid and no additional fees required for candidates. NEET-UG serves as the primary entrance exam for medical courses across India, with approximately 22.79 lakh students participating in the initial examination.
