Anthropic, a leading AI research organization, has called for a coordinated slowdown in AI development due to the rapid pace at which technology is advancing. The company stated, "It would be good for the world to have the option to slow or temporarily pause frontier AI development to enable societal structures and alignment research to keep up with the advance of the technology." Anthropic's internal data reveals that more than 80% of the code in its codebase is now generated by its AI model, Claude, and engineers are merging significantly more code than before. While acknowledging the benefits of AI, the company cautioned that a unilateral pause by any single entity would be ineffective; instead, a collaborative approach among multiple stakeholders is necessary to ensure safety.
