In a tragic incident in Azhoor, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, an eight-year-old boy named Dikshil died after being suspected of suffering a snakebite while asleep at home. The incident occurred around 2:30 AM on Thursday when he woke up complaining of a bite. Despite immediate medical attention at the Taluk Hospital in Chirayinkeezhu and later at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, he was pronounced dead. Following the incident, neighbors discovered an Indian spectacled cobra in the house. This unfortunate event marks the second snakebite fatality involving a child in Kerala within a week, highlighting a concerning trend as a 75-year-old woman also died from a snakebite recently. Authorities attribute the increased likelihood of snake encounters to the severe heat conditions, which compel snakes to seek cooler environments and food sources within residential areas.
