The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of 'criminal negligence' following a series of deaths caused by individuals falling into open drains in the city. Ankush Narang, the Leader of the Opposition in the MCD, pointed out that while the BJP has seen changes in its Mayors, the civic body's 'irresponsible attitude' remains unchanged. He reported that several fatalities have occurred in the past two and a half months, including a 30-year-old man in Rohini and a two-year-old girl in Burari, yet the MCD has avoided accountability. Narang emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that with the monsoon approaching, the necessary drain cleaning and desilting works have halted, putting residents at risk for waterlogging and further accidents. He demanded that the families of the victims receive compensation of ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD) each. The Delhi BJP, when approached for comments, declined to respond to the allegations made by the AAP.
