Juan Matheus, a 22-year-old third baseman for the Miami Marlins at High-A Beloit, is emerging as a significant prospect after being signed by the New York Yankees for $10,000 from Venezuela four years ago. His journey began at the age of two when his grandmother introduced him to baseball, despite no family history in the sport. Matheus faced challenges, going unsigned at 16 before finally being picked by the Yankees at nearly 18. Since then, he has grown physically, now standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 195 pounds. This season, he has made an impact with six home runs and a batting line of .263/.348/.474 through 37 games. Acquired by the Marlins in January as part of the trade for pitcher Ryan Weathers, Matheus has impressed coaches with his swing decisions and defensive skills, playing primarily at third base but also at shortstop and second base.
