Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday handed over his son Bandi Sai Bhageerath to Hyderabad police in connection with a POCSO Case, where the latter is accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. “Satyameva Jayate! In view of the allegations made against our son Bandi Bhagirath, and out of respect for the law, I handed him over today through advocates for police investigation,” he wrote in a statement. “As I said earlier, before the law, whether it is my son or an ordinary citizen, everyone is equal. All of us must abide by the law. Our son has repeatedly maintained that he has done no wrong. In fact, as soon as the complaint was filed, we initially thought of surrendering him at the police station,” he said. Why The Delay In Surrender? Explaining the delay in the surrender, Bandi Sanjay said his lawyers were under the impression that the case would be dismissed in court and bail would be granted. However, he said he did not feel it was right to delay the matter, so he personally brought his son and handed him over to the police for investigation. “Even though court orders are likely to come on Monday, out of respect for the judiciary and to avoid any further delay, I sent my son for investigation.” What Is The Case About? This came after a lookout circular was issued against Bhageerath, based on a sexual harassment by the girl’s mother. As per the FIR, Bhageerath was in a relationship with her and had sexually harassed her. She also accused him of subjecting her to inappropriate physical acts and forcing her to consume alcohol. Meanwhile, Bhageerath also lodged a counter-complaint, saying that the girl invited him to family functions and gatherings, after which her family started pressuring him to marry her and extorting Rs 5 crore from him. Telangana HC Denies Relief After widespread protests against Bhageerath, the Telangana High Court denied relief to him, saying it was not inclined to grant any interim order at this stage. Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief K Kavitha on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the removal of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar from his ministerial position to ensure a “free and fair investigation” in the alleged POCSO case. Bandi Sanjay has called the allegations against his son “baseless” and politically motivated.
