Akash Pushkarna, a man from Jalandhar, Punjab, India, faced a harrowing experience after being detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and a detention center in Malaysia for nearly 15 days. His ordeal began when he was denied entry into India at Delhi airport on April 24, despite holding valid travel documents from New Zealand. After being deported back to Malaysia, Akash spent six days sleeping on the airport floor and nine days in detention without adequate food or basic facilities. He expressed deep distress over being unrecognized as an Indian citizen. His return on May 10 was made possible through the efforts of Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, who coordinated with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Malaysia. Upon his return, Akash and his family met Seechewal to express their gratitude for his support during this challenging time.
