After ten days of discussions, the Congress party has appointed V D Satheesan as the new Chief Minister of Kerala. His selection came after he outperformed two other candidates, K C Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala, due to a combination of political alliances and grassroots support. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a key ally with 22 legislators in the United Democratic Front (UDF), backed Satheesan, viewing the UDF's recent electoral success as a validation of his leadership. Additionally, grassroots party workers expressed strong support for Satheesan, advocating that he should lead the government following the party's victory. Concerns regarding the backlash against Venugopal's supporters, who faced protests for their alignment with him, also played a role in the decision-making process. Satheesan's vocal criticism of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his stance on secular politics further solidified his position as a suitable leader for the party.
