Indian stock markets closed lower on Friday amid rising geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran, which dampened investor sentiment. The NSE Nifty 50 index declined by 0.6%, or 150.50 points, finishing at 24,176.15, while the BSE Sensex dropped 0.7%, or 516.33 points, to end at 77,328.19. Despite Friday's losses, both indices managed to secure gains for the week, with the Nifty and Sensex rising 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively, largely due to a 7.1% drop in oil prices this week. Analysts noted that the Nifty is consolidating within an 800-point range and requires a decisive breakout above 24,600 or below 23,800 for a significant move. On the trading front, foreign portfolio investors sold shares worth ₹4,110.60 crore on Friday, continuing a trend of selling that has seen them offload ₹10,308 crore in May. Conversely, domestic institutional investors purchased shares worth ₹6,748.13 crore.
