Maharashtra is currently experiencing a favorable water situation with 653.63 TMC of usable water in its dams, which is 101.77 TMC more than the same time last year. However, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called for caution, urging residents and government departments to conserve water due to the unpredictable nature of the upcoming monsoon influenced by El Niño. Historical data indicates that during previous El Niño years, water storage levels have plummeted, with drops of nearly 12% in 2014 and 14% in 2015, leading to severe water shortages. The state government is implementing strict water management measures to ensure adequate drinking water supply through August 2026. Division-wise, the Pune division has the highest current storage of 206.55 TMC, while the Konkan division is the only one showing a decrease in water levels, currently at 61.24 TMC.
