India's Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced that the country achieved its best-ever performance in wind energy capacity addition, with 6.1 GW added during the fiscal year 2025-26. This brings India's total installed wind energy capacity to 56.1 GW, with an additional 28 GW currently under implementation. Joshi emphasized the untapped potential in the sector, estimating India's wind energy potential at nearly 1164 GW at a hub height of 150 meters. The government aims to reach 100 GW of wind capacity by 2030 and 156 GW by 2036, significantly supporting India's net-zero emissions target by 2070. Wind energy is crucial for stabilizing the energy system, particularly as it generates nearly 45% of its power during peak demand hours, complementing solar energy production effectively.
