The Comparative Etymological Dictionary of Tamil and Indo-European Languages is a groundbreaking 12-volume lexicography project that seeks to link the Tamil language, one of the oldest in the world, to the Indo-European language family. Chief editor G Arasentiran emphasizes that this initiative is unprecedented in its scale and scope. The project, initiated in March 2022, aims to analyze 300 root words identified by English etymologist Walter William Skeat. So far, four volumes have been published, with 79 words examined, and the remaining volumes are expected to be completed within three years.
