Jyotsna Anand, a teacher in Gurugram, India, has been a beacon of hope for a community affected by leprosy since her first visit in 1995. Initially invited to a birthday party, she discovered the dire conditions of the colony, where residents lived in mud structures with limited access to sanitation and healthcare. Inspired by her childhood meeting with Mother Teresa, Anand began visiting the colony regularly, providing essential supplies and mobilizing local support. Over the years, her efforts led to significant improvements, including the construction of concrete homes. Anand also focused on the education of children in the colony, organizing health camps and facilitating their admission to schools. Many of these children have since become successful professionals. In response to the ongoing stigma, Anand co-founded Prakash Educare to assist underprivileged children with their education. She believes that dignity and inclusion are crucial for individuals affected by leprosy, and her work continues to uplift the community.
