Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu announced a significant investment of ₹402 crore for the redevelopment of Amritsar railway station, alongside an additional ₹100 crore for the construction of new platforms. This initiative aims to transform the station into a modern and passenger-friendly transport hub, enhancing the travel experience and reflecting the cultural identity of Amritsar, Punjab, India. The redevelopment will include the addition of five new platforms and improvements to train handling capacity to reduce congestion. Bittu also inaugurated the Amrit Bharat Express, a modern non-AC train that connects Amritsar with New Jalpaiguri, which is expected to benefit a wide range of travelers, including migrant workers, students, and tourists. Furthermore, he noted that the railway budget allocation for Punjab has risen to ₹5,673 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27, marking a substantial increase compared to previous years.
