A tragic incident occurred on Thursday night at a wedding celebration in Bhandup, Mumbai, where Bhalchandra Falle, a 25-year-old guest, died after falling into an uncovered sewage treatment plant (STP) pit. The pit was inadequately covered with wooden planks and steel sheets at a nearby under-construction site operated by Shraddha Developers. The incident unfolded around 11 PM when some female guests reported misbehavior by an unidentified man. Falle pursued the accused, who fled towards the construction site, and fell into the 35-foot-deep pit after stepping on the flimsy covering. In an attempt to rescue him, 10 other guests fell into the pit as well. Fire brigade personnel managed to rescue all individuals, with eight being discharged from hospitals in Mulund and Bhandup, while two were admitted for further treatment. Unfortunately, Falle succumbed to his injuries. The Bhandup police have registered a case against the builder under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, including causing death by negligence, but no arrests have been made yet.
