The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension of the free online Aadhaar document update facility for an additional year, now available until June 14, 2027. This decision is aimed at assisting millions of Aadhaar holders, particularly those who have not updated their identity or address documents for several years. The UIDAI confirmed that users can continue to update their Aadhaar documents online without any charges, which is crucial for maintaining the accuracy of the Aadhaar database. To update documents, users must visit the myAadhaar portal, log in with their Aadhaar number and OTP, and follow a series of steps to upload valid identity and address proof documents. While the online update service is free, biometric details such as fingerprints and photographs cannot be updated online and require a physical visit to an Aadhaar enrollment center. Additionally, the myAadhaar app is set to be discontinued soon, and physical centers may impose fees for updates.
