With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking control of West Bengal's government, there is a renewed focus on reviving stalled infrastructure projects in the state. Key railway projects, which have faced delays primarily due to land acquisition issues, will be prioritized. The railways have identified 17 projects spanning over 4,000 kilometers with an estimated cost of ₹4,500 crore that will be re-evaluated for progress. Currently, 84 central projects are underway in West Bengal, totaling approximately ₹1.5 trillion, with significant cost escalations noted, particularly in the rail sector. The Kolkata Metro, which has been slow to progress, will also benefit from this renewed focus, as work on four corridors covering 52 km is ongoing, although 20 km remains stalled due to land issues. Additionally, the proposed ₹25,000 crore deep-sea Tajpur Port project is expected to gain traction, aligning with the BJP's manifesto promises for port-led development and enhanced logistics solutions in the state.
