Street vendors from the Kalyana Karnataka region will convene in Raichur on June 6 to advocate for their rights and welfare. The event, organized by the Kalyana Karnataka Street Vendors’ Association, aims to highlight their long-standing demands to the State government. Key issues to be addressed include the establishment of dedicated vending zones equipped with basic amenities such as shelters, drinking water, toilets, electricity, and waste disposal facilities. Yesumitra, president of the Raichur district unit, emphasized the need for exclusive allotment of these zones and the effective implementation of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014. Additional demands include a monthly pension of ₹3,000 for vendors aged over 55, free education for their children in both government and private English medium schools, and the reservation of space for vending zones in new urban developments. Ateeq Patel, State working president of the KPCC Street Vendors’ Cell, expressed hope that the government would respond positively to their concerns. The participation of local ministers is anticipated, further emphasizing the importance of this gathering.
