The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to launch a public campaign against the Congress government's decision to reduce the reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Karnataka from 7% to 3%. R. Ashok, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, criticized the Congress for 'cheating' the ST community and claimed that the previous BJP administration had increased reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and STs based on their population to promote social justice. Ashok argued that the reduction in reservation is a betrayal of these oppressed communities and called for an immediate restoration to the previous levels. Additionally, he voiced opposition to the government's plans to acquire about 9,600 acres of fertile land in Bidadi township for a new project, alleging it serves the interests of real estate developers rather than farmers. He raised concerns about the necessity of such a large land acquisition, given the seven lakh vacant flats in Bengaluru.

The reduction in reservation could lead to increased social unrest among Scheduled Tribe communities and affect their access to opportunities. Additionally, the land acquisition for the township may disrupt local farmers and the agricultural landscape.
