At the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed an international colloquium, emphasizing the need for ethical frameworks in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He remarked that AI, along with issues like inequality and global conflict, has created a scenario where technological advancements outpace social understanding. Pradhan urged that social sciences should guide technology to ensure it remains inclusive and human-centric. He drew upon India's civilizational traditions, using the Mahabharata as an example of the importance of dialogue in addressing societal challenges. Pradhan also highlighted India's recent governance achievements, including digital expansion and vaccine production during the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting that the global community is increasingly looking to India as a model for development. The event also announced the formation of a Global Social Science Association aimed at fostering collaborative research on issues pertinent to the Global South, promoting partnerships among universities and institutions.
