During a global colloquium celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan called on institutions to investigate the social consequences of artificial intelligence (AI). He raised critical questions about the future of jobs and the role of human values in guiding technology. Pradhan highlighted the rapid pace of technological advancement and the necessity for social sciences to provide ethical insights. He urged scholars from more than 25 countries to examine India's development as a global case study. Additionally, Vineet Joshi, the secretary of higher education, advocated for a global ranking framework for social sciences to enhance interdisciplinary research. TISS announced the formation of the Global Social Science Association (GSSA) to facilitate international collaboration in social science research. Earlier, Pradhan inaugurated India's first integrated carbon capture and utilization laboratory at IIT-Bombay, showcasing innovative approaches to carbon mitigation.
