In a significant operation, the Shimla district police arrested two drug suppliers from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh as part of an ongoing anti-drug campaign. The first arrest occurred in Rohru, where police seized 190 banned nitrazepam tablets from two suspects. Investigations traced the supply to Ahmar Brijas, a 32-year-old chemist operating in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, who was arrested on May 17 for allegedly distributing restricted medications without valid prescriptions. Action has been initiated against him under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. In a separate incident, police apprehended two residents from Punjab and confiscated 10.30 grams of heroin. The investigation identified Akashdeep, a 22-year-old from Ferozepur, Punjab, as the supplier, leading to his arrest on May 19. The Shimla police reported that this year has seen a marked increase in drug-related arrests, with 39 individuals apprehended through backward linkage investigations, significantly higher than the previous year. Additionally, 30 interstate and international drug trafficking networks have been dismantled, reflecting the police's intensified efforts in combating drug-related crimes.
