He previously won this seat in the 2021 elections, securing 85,802 votes (47.7%) and defeating his nearest rival, Karthik Thondaiman from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), by a margin of 13,001 votes. In the forthcoming elections, he will face a triangular contest against N. Ramachandran from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and K. M. Shareef from the Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK). Muthuraja, who is 49 years old, has declared assets amounting to approximately ₹9.12 crore (around $1.1 million USD) and liabilities of about ₹4.44 crore (around $535,000 USD). He holds an M.B.B.S degree from Vinayaka Mission's Medical College, which he completed in December 2001.
