This achievement makes him the first non-Congress leader in the state to serve consecutive terms since Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. The event was attended by several high-profile leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In addition to these dignitaries, Chief Ministers from 22 NDA-ruled states and Union Territories, BJP leaders, ambassadors, industrialists, and religious leaders were present. Sarma also announced that four ministers—Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog—along with the Assembly Speaker, would take their oaths during the ceremony. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes the BJP, Assam Gana Parishad (AGP), and Bodoland People's Front (BPF), secured a third consecutive term by winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly, with the BJP alone claiming 82 seats. BJP president JP Nadda confirmed that eight BJP MLAs proposed Sarma’s name as the legislature party leader.
