On Tuesday, a bomb attached to a rickshaw exploded in a busy bazaar in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people and injuring over two dozen others. Among the deceased were two traffic police officers and a woman, according to local police chief Azmat Ullah. The Pakistani Taliban, or Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), is suspected to be behind the attack, although no group has officially claimed responsibility yet. This bombing follows a recent incident in the nearby Bannu district where 15 police officers were killed in a suicide bombing and gunfire attack, prompting Pakistan to formally complain to Afghanistan about the TTP's activities. The TTP has intensified its assaults on Pakistani security forces since the Afghan Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021, leading to increased tensions between the two countries. Despite peace talks mediated by China in early April, cross-border clashes have persisted, highlighting the deteriorating security situation in the region.
