In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Mumbai police have arrested 13 individuals connected to a mobile drug manufacturing racket producing mephedrone (MD). The operation was discovered during a raid on April 4 at a makeshift lab in Chheda Adarsh Building, Nayanagar, Mira Road East, where police seized 3.3 kg of MD valued at ₹3 crore (approximately $360,000 USD) from Firdous Arbaz Qureshi and her husband, Arbaz Vakil Qureshi. Following this, police apprehended 11 more suspects linked to the supply chain. The investigation revealed that the gang operated mobile factories, manufacturing 12-15 kg of MD at various locations before relocating to avoid detection. Police confiscated 6.8 kg of MD worth ₹13 crore and 255 litres of chemicals, along with laboratory equipment valued at the same amount. The police inspector, Pramod Badakh, noted that the ease of accessing chemicals and equipment in the market facilitated the gang's operations.
