A 31-year-old man who illegally crossed from Pakistan into India died on April 12, 2024, after being detained for more than two years at the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Bhuj, Kutch district, Gujarat. The man was reportedly hearing- and speech-impaired, complicating communication with authorities. He was apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) on January 16, 2024, and subsequently handed over to the Dayapar police station. Despite being in custody for over two years, he was never diagnosed or treated for tuberculosis, which ultimately led to his death. After falling ill, he was transferred to GK General Hospital in Bhuj but could not be saved. Following his death, the Kutch (West) Police have reached out to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi with details of the case, awaiting a response. According to police procedures, if the body is unclaimed, final rites will be conducted by the authorities.
