On International Biodiversity Day, Bharat Singh Hada, member-secretary of the Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board, highlighted the urgent need to protect endangered plant species to maintain ecological balance. He spoke at the newly established endangered species park near Butibori, Nagpur, which houses 4,000 plants from 70 different species across five acres of land. This park, created with the help of the Maharashtra Gene Bank, serves as a living library, where each plant is accompanied by a QR code that provides detailed information to visitors. The initiative was spearheaded by forest official Vinita Vyas, who identified suitable species based on their adaptability to the local climate and soil conditions. The groundwork for the park was meticulously prepared to ensure optimal growth conditions for the plants, emphasizing the importance of biodiversity in supporting various ecosystems, including those that benefit birds, bees, and insects. The park aims to raise awareness about Maharashtra's vanishing flora and the critical role of plant preservation in fostering a healthier planet.
