Amy McCarthy, a 32-year-old resident of Whetstone Lane in Tranmere, has been banned from entering all Tesco stores within a 60-mile radius following a series of thefts. The Liverpool Magistrates’ Court sentenced her to a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order after she admitted to stealing items, including cheese and poultry, from Tesco in Claughton. McCarthy's repeated offenses included multiple visits to a Tesco on Upton Road in Birkenhead, where she would fill her bag with goods without paying. Under the court order, she is prohibited from entering Birkenhead Town Centre, all Tesco stores in the Wirral, and the Vue Cinema in Birkenhead. The order also restricts her from touching or entering any motor vehicle without consent and requires her to leave shops if asked by staff. Wirral Neighbourhood Inspector Nicola Hughes emphasized that retail theft impacts the community and that this order is a strong response to persistent shoplifting. Police have warned that any violation of the order could lead to arrest and imprisonment, highlighting the importance of Criminal Behaviour Orders in combating retail crime.
