Meena Muthiah, a distinguished educationist and philanthropist, passed away at the age of 92 in Ooty, India. She transformed Chettinad Vidyashram into one of Chennai's most influential private schools, emphasizing education, arts, and philanthropy. Born into the Chettinad banking community, Muthiah's early life was shaped by her family's move from Burma during World War II. After marrying industrialist M A M Muthiah Chettiar, she pursued higher education and, following her husband's death, dedicated herself to fostering children and establishing educational institutions. Starting from her living room, she founded Chettinad Vidyashram and later expanded to include Rani Meyyammai Girls Higher Secondary School and Kumararani Dr Meena Muthiah College of Arts and Science. Muthiah was also a passionate supporter of classical arts, founding Chettinad Kalaikoodam and contributing to health services through various initiatives, including the Kumara Rani Meena Muthiah Mother and Child Hospital in Karaikudi. Her legacy is celebrated for its unwavering commitment to education and compassion.
