Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch on Wednesday for questioning related to a forgery and defamation case initiated by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The case, filed on April 5, arose after Khera alleged that Sharma possessed multiple passports and undisclosed foreign assets, claims which Sharma has denied, asserting that they are politically motivated. Khera arrived in Guwahati with a team of lawyers and presented documents supporting his allegations. His lawyer stated that Khera was complying with a Supreme Court directive that required him to cooperate with the investigation. Assam Police indicated that they would file a charge sheet promptly, contingent on Khera's cooperation. Khera previously secured anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court, which noted that the allegations seemed politically motivated. The court emphasized that its ruling on bail did not influence the investigation's merits.
