The Panchkula police have launched 'MAIDAN 2.0', a month-long anti-drug campaign aimed at reducing drug trafficking and substance abuse in the district. The initiative, announced by Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain during a video conference, will focus on identifying drug hotspots and intensifying surveillance in these areas. The police will enhance monitoring through the use of CCTV cameras and drones, particularly in parks and other vulnerable locations. Chemist shops suspected of illegally selling intoxicants will be under strict scrutiny, with audits of CCTV systems and legal action for violations. Additionally, the campaign will involve regular checks on parolees and a review of drug-related cases from the past five years. A significant aspect of the initiative includes taking action against properties allegedly acquired with drug money, which may involve attachment or demolition. The police also plan to increase their network of 'police mitras' in hotspot areas to bolster intelligence on drug supply chains.
