A serious accident occurred on Thursday in Erskine Park, Sydney, when a school bus carrying 41 students and a teacher crashed into a tree around 1pm. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, where they found the bus driver, a man in his 50s, trapped in the wreckage. He was treated by paramedics and subsequently transported to Westmead Hospital in critical condition, with indications that he may have experienced a medical episode prior to the crash. Among the students, ten aged between 16 and 18 were taken to various hospitals for treatment of minor injuries, including one with suspected fractures. The remaining students and the teacher were shaken but did not sustain any physical injuries and were either taken home or returned to school. The northbound lane of Erskine Park Road was closed as emergency responders continued their work at the site. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, with officials from the Department of Education also present.
