Indian Super League (ISL) clubs have submitted a proposal for a new commercialization model that deviates from the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) tender document. Instead of having a commercial partner, the clubs suggest that Genius Sports, which had previously bid $7 million annually for a 15+5 year partnership, should only serve as the league's data and technology partner. This new model allows clubs to retain 90% of the league's economic interests, with the AIFF holding the remainder. The clubs argue that they, along with AIFF, are better positioned than a foreign commercial entity to manage the league and enhance its commercial value. The proposal also suggests that tenders for key revenue streams like media rights and sponsorships should be managed internally. Notably, the proposal omits the 20% revenue share that AIFF would receive if Genius Sports were to be fully onboarded. AIFF's deputy secretary-general, Satyanarayan Muthyalu, stated that they will consider the proposal while adhering to guidelines set by the Supreme Court and the Union sports ministry. Genius Sports, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, has partnerships with major sporting organizations and offers expertise in sports data and technology.
