Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya conducted a high-level review meeting on Saturday to assess Meghalaya's preparations for the upcoming 39th National Games scheduled for 2027. He emphasized the event's dual role in showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya and the North-Eastern region while ensuring world-class sporting infrastructure and broad public engagement. Mandaviya announced the establishment of a ₹150 crore High-altitude training centre to enhance athlete training opportunities. He commended Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for the remarkable advancements in Meghalaya's sports ecosystem over the past eight years, including talent identification and grassroots development. The Minister highlighted the North East's growing prominence in Indian sports, noting that it produces exceptional talent and that hosting the National Games will inspire young athletes. The meeting included key officials from the region, showcasing the government's strong focus on sports development in the North East.
