On Monday, the Delhi High Court allowed Arvind Kejriwal (Aam Aadmi Party convenor) to submit a written response regarding the recusal of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma from the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) challenge against the discharge of 23 accused in the alleged liquor policy scam. Justice Sharma remarked that the court was making an exception to ensure Kejriwal feels heard, postponing the verdict from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm to accommodate his response. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed this move, arguing that no other common citizen would receive such a benefit, emphasizing that the rules of court should not change for any individual. Kejriwal previously filed a plea for Justice Sharma's recusal, alleging bias due to her associations with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), as well as a potential conflict of interest involving her children. The court acknowledged the unusual nature of accepting a rejoinder after judgment is reserved but stated it would take Kejriwal's submissions on record.
