The Census 2027 has officially begun in Delhi, with over 700 trained personnel set to conduct a door-to-door survey as part of the house-listing and housing census (HLO). This Phase-1 exercise will span 30 days, concluding on May 15. The areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB) have been organized into 560 house-listing blocks, each containing about 180 households. The initiative follows a self-enumeration period that ended with approximately 12 lakh people participating across various states and Union Territories, though only around 5,000 self-enumerations were recorded in NDMC and DCB regions. Starting May 1, residents in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will also have the opportunity for self-enumeration. Enumerators will leverage a dedicated mobile application for data collection, ensuring higher accuracy and faster processing. They will spend about 10-15 minutes per household to gather detailed information on housing conditions and household amenities. The officials aim to clarify the purpose of the census to residents, particularly as there is some confusion with the ongoing special intensive revision of election rolls in Delhi.
