On Sunday night, a major fire occurred at a petrol pump godown in Buxar district, Bihar, leading to the destruction of several vehicles and causing estimated financial losses in lakhs of rupees. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. Fire department officials received the distress call around 7:40 PM and quickly escalated their response due to the fire's intensity and the presence of highly flammable materials. Five fire tenders were deployed, and it took over an hour to bring the flames under control, which spread rapidly due to an extensive stock of industrial lubricants and an adjacent plywood godown. While the main fuel dispensing units were saved, four vehicles were completely gutted, and others sustained partial damage. Preliminary investigations revealed that the petrol pump was operating in violation of mandatory safety protocols, prompting a formal inquiry to ascertain the cause of the fire, suspected to be a short circuit, and assess the financial impact of the incident.
