Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant of Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, was shot dead in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas district, near Kolkata. The attack took place just two days after the BJP's significant victory in the state assembly elections. Reports indicate that Rath was in a moving car when assailants, who had been trailing him, opened fire as the vehicle slowed down, hitting him with three bullets. Another individual, Buddhadeb, who was accompanying Rath, sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Suvendu Adhikari was not present during the incident. Following the attack, Dibyendu Adhikari, the BJP leader's brother, has called for a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This incident raises concerns about the safety of political figures and their aides in the region.
