Joseph Parra Miguel, a senior at Phoenix Coding Academy in Phoenix, Arizona, has made history by being accepted into 49 colleges and earning $5 million in scholarships, the largest amount awarded to a single student in the Phoenix Union High School District. His journey was supported by school counselor Kaity Zaiser, who noted that Joseph's scholarship total constitutes half of what his entire senior class earned this year. Joseph expressed pride in his achievements, stating, "I never believed I was going to hit that mile goal, but I managed to do it." His motivation stems from his immigrant family's background and his desire to honor their sacrifices. Joseph utilized programs like Niche and Common App for college applications, which helped reduce costs associated with applying to multiple schools. He has decided to attend Arizona State University, aiming to study business with an emphasis on language and culture, to foster connections between diverse communities. As he prepares for graduation, Joseph hopes to inspire future students to break his record.
